Sibt ibn al-Jawzi. Born in Baghdad, the child of a Turkish freedman and Ibn al-Jawzi's girl, he was raised by his celebrated grandfather. After his grandfather's passing he moved to Damascus, where he worked beneath the Ayyubids Sultans al-Mu'azzam, an-Nasir Dawud, and al-Ashraf. In 1229, on an-Nasir's command, he gave a red hot sermon within the Umayyad Mosque upbraiding the arrangement of Jaffa with the Crusaders as Damascus arranged for the coming attack at the hands of al-Ashraf. Unlike his Hanbali granddad, he was of the Hanafi madhhab, which was the legal school common to those of Turkish plunge and favored by the Ayyubid Sultans. He has moreover been depicted as having Shia propensities, most eminently by al-Dhahabi. His verifiable compositions, which incorporate more basic accounts of Uthman compared to other sources.
